A Soulful Approach to Collecting

At CoCollect, we believe collecting should happen over time, giving yourself time and space to experience artwork. Our model of living with artwork before formally committing to it through leasing, mirrors the way stories unfold in a home—layer by layer, over time. This slow, considered approach aligns beautifully with the philosophy of Lauren Sullivan, Founder and Curator of Well by Design, who joins us this month as our guest curator.

Lauren’s design philosophy is rooted in patience and presence. She encourages clients to enjoy the evolution of their spaces, to allow objects and artworks to reveal their resonance across seasons of life. Like CoCollect, she values the journey of collecting as much as the destination, finding meaning in pieces that carry memory, mood, and a sense of belonging.

“I’ve always gravitated toward pieces that carry a little weight—visually, emotionally, or historically. What I’m always seeking, whether for my home, a client’s space, or our Well Found collection, are pieces that don’t shout, but still stop you in your tracks—that carry memory or mood, and feel like they’ve always belonged.”

Lauren’s guest curation for CoCollect highlights this soulful approach to collecting. She’s grouped the works into three categories, each one offering a glimpse into her thoughtful lens on art and design.

Memory, Softened:

“Nostalgic palettes, timeworn surfaces, and a quiet kind of romance.”

These works feel familiar even when they’re not. They carry a faded softness, like stories passed down through generations or details worn into surfaces with time. Just as Lauren treasures the patina of a beloved antique, these pieces resonate with emotional memory—art that feels like it has already lived a few lives.

Graphic & Grounded:

“Strong lines, subtle contrast, and a quiet sense of structure.”

Lauren finds strength in restraint. These selections are bold without bravado—holding their ground with architectural presence and balance. Their graphic simplicity creates contrast and depth, offering a sense of order that feels both contemporary and timeless.

Stillness with Edge:

Moody, textural, and a little mysterious.”

This final grouping reflects Lauren’s affinity for quiet complexity. The works here are contemplative—still yet layered, subtle yet commanding. They invite a pause, asking viewers to slow down, look again, and linger in their presence.
